1. How Hanwha LPR works
LPR happens inside the camera — no separate analytics server. Each vehicle that passes produces a record: the plate photo, the plate characters as text, a timestamp, and (on Road AI models) the vehicle's make, model & color (MMCR). Those records stream straight into your recorder or Wisenet WAVE as searchable metadata.

100,000
Vehicles held in the camera's rolling database for on-camera traffic analytics
35 mph
Top speed for the Low-Speed LPR app — parking lots, drive-thrus, entry gates
2. Highway-speed LPR: Road AI
Road AI is Hanwha's embedded LPR + traffic analytics application, pre-installed and licensed on dedicated LPR cameras like the PNO-A9311RLP — a 4K bullet with a 31× AI zoom lens, 120 dB WDR, and WiseIR plate reads out to roughly 200 feet (61 m), day or night.
It reads plates and classifies vehicles — make, model & color (color recognized in daytime conditions) — and keeps a rolling on-camera database of the last 100,000 vehicles to produce daily, weekly, and monthly traffic statistics without any server.
Beyond plates, vehicle attributes (type and color) flow into the same searchable metadata — so "blue pickup trucks after 10 pm" is a query, not a memory test.
Spec snapshot — PNO-A9311RLP
- 4K resolution, 31× AI IR zoom (motorized)
- WiseIR plate illumination to ~200 ft
- 120 dB WDR for glare-heavy roads
- Road AI LPR + MMCR pre-installed & licensed
- Also available: PNO-A9081RLP (4K fixed-lens LPR bullet)
3. Gate-speed LPR: the Low-Speed LPR app
Most sites don't have highway traffic — they have parking lots, drive-thrus, and entry gates, where vehicles move at walking-to-neighborhood speed. Hanwha's Low-Speed LPR Application is a ready-to-go embedded LPR solution built for exactly those, effective for vehicles up to 35 mph.
It ships pre-loaded on affordable X-series models — XNV-6120R/LPR (vandal dome) and XNO-6120R/LPR (bullet) — activated with a license code. That makes gate-to-lot LPR practical for apartment complexes, storage yards, dealerships, and small business entrances, not just highways.
Want custom detection objects (trailers, golf carts, specific vehicle types)? Hanwha's WiseDetector lets you train compatible AI cameras for your site-specific objects.
Typical gate LPR layout
- LPR camera aimed at the approach lane, capture zone at ~15–30 ft
- Plate event + snapshot logged on every entry/exit
- Event action can raise a barrier gate automatically
- Optional allow/block lists in your VMS workflow
4. Finding a vehicle in seconds
This is where LPR earns its keep. In Wisenet WAVE, each plate detection is saved as an image plus text through the analysis function — so investigating a vehicle is a text search, not a frame-by-frame hunt:
- Type a partial or full plate number → matching events appear with snapshots
- Browse a gallery of plate captures by time range or camera
- Click any hit to jump straight to the full video at that moment
Combine with vehicle attributes when the plate isn't readable — "dark SUV, damage on the rear quarter" is still findable.
5. Where LPR pays for itself
Parking enforcement
Time-stamped plate history for lots, garages, and HOA streets — evidence without confrontation.
Gated communities & yards
Know every vehicle in and out — guests, contractors, repeat visitors — and flag unknown plates.
Drive-thrus & dealerships
Match vehicles to transactions and test drives; resolve "which car was it?" disputes instantly.
Perimeter & road monitoring
Trailers and fixed sites log passing traffic — useful for hit-and-run and trespass correlation.
Fleet & logistics
Automated gate open for registered trucks, dwell-time logging for the yard.
Loss prevention
Link known-vehicle lists to incidents across sites, with bookmarked evidence clips.
